Meet Jen & Katie — The Duo Behind The Design
Some business partnerships are born in boardrooms. Ours was born on a dance floor.
Jen and Katie met while teaching dance over fifteen years ago, and what started as a friendship quickly revealed a shared obsession — beautiful, functional, accessible design. After years of designing and staging spaces for friends, family, and clients separately, they finally decided the time had come to join forces. Make the Room was born, and honestly, it was long overdue.
Together, Jen and Katie are the yin and yang of Make the Room, a full-service interior design firm — complementary in style, united in vision, and genuinely fun to work with. They bring creativity, warmth, humor, and an unwavering commitment to making design accessible to everyone. No intimidating processes. No out-of-reach price tags. Just two passionate designers who love what they do and love helping clients fall in love with their spaces.

Jen Kurtz brings a unique perspective to design — born in Australia, raised in Iowa, and rooted in Denver since 2000. Jen discovered her love for design as a teenager when she finally got her own room (basement, no windows, Ralph Macchio on the walls — she made it work). Married for nearly 30 years to her favorite person, Jen is embracing the freedom of an empty nest. Jen has an extraordinary talent for transforming roadside finds and scoring incredible deals on Facebook Marketplace, thrift stores, and HomeGoods — proving that great design doesn't require a big budget, just a great eye. She's also borderline obsessed with organization. (There really is no border.) She believes that functional systems should be as beautiful as they are practical, and customized to fit the people using them. Jen also has a deep love for color, pattern, and texture — and it shows in every space she touches.
Katie Farruggia is a Colorado native who has been reimagining spaces her entire life. Married to her high school sweetheart and mom to two daughters who fill their home with books, sports gear, and wonderful chaos, Katie's design journey began when she remodeled her first home — and then her second, and her third. She dabbled in event and wedding planning, and it wasn't long before friends, family, and even strangers at parties were encouraging her to turn her passion into a career. After working professionally in design and staging, she took the leap. Katie believes deeply that everyone deserves a space that reflects their personality, style, and passions — and that great design is for everyone, not just ka-trillionaires. (It's a number. Trust her.)
